Apg 2022: Malaysian Contingent Adds 10 Medals On Second Day Of Competition

HANGZHOU, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent competing at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games did not disappoint the trust vested upon their ability by accumulating 10 medals on the second day of competitions, winning three gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

National track cyclists Nur Suraiya Muhamad Zamri-Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan (pilot) blazed their way to the first gold medal of the day by winning the women’s B 1,000m time trial (visual impairment) here today.

Nur Suraiya-Farina Shawati were simply in a class of their own throughout the race with an energetic ride enroute to clocking 1 minute 13.434 seconds to register a clear victory at the Chun'an Jieshou Sports Centre Velodrome.

Track cycling also added two silver medals when Nur Suraiya’s teammates Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais and pilot Nurul Suhada Zainal clinched the silver in the same event while the men’s B 1,000m time trial pair contributed a silver medal when Mohd Khairul Hazwan Wahab-Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol (pilot) clocked 1:05.740s to finish behind gold medal winning Chinese riders Luo Fei-Ma Wenhao who clocked 1:04.321s.

The athletics camp lived up to expectations by contributing two gold, two silver and a bronze at the Huanglong Sports Centre Stadium with Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli winning the men’s F20 shot put (Intellectual Impairment) and Datuk Abdul Latif Romly, winner of two Paralympic gold medals, added another feather to his cap by winning the men’s long jump T20 (intellectual impairment) gold medal.

The multiple world record holder in the event, leaped 7.18m to present the fourth gold medal of the games to the Malaysian contingent and the second gold to the athletics camp.

Eddy Bernard contributed a silver from the men’s T44 100m (Physical impairment) followed by Mohammad Aliff Mohamad Awi’s silver medal feat in the men’s F20 shot put while the bronze medal came from the men’s long jump T20 through Zulkifly Abdullah.

The swimming camp came in with two bronze medals at the Aquatic Sports Arena, courtesy of Muhammad Imaan Aiman Muhammad Redzuan in the men’s S14 100m backstroke (Intellectual impairment) and Zy Lee Kher from the men’s S5 200m freestyle (Physical impairment).

The Malaysian contingent’s pursuit for medals will continue at various competition venues.
