PETALING JAYA, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh remains optimistic that the Malaysian contingent competing in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games can surpass the 35 medal target set by the Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPC) and the National Sports Council (NSC).
Hannah said her confidence brews from the fact that the Malaysian contingent has already won 16 medals, comprising four gold, six silver and six bronze medals after just two days of competition.
“Today is only the second day and every day I get updates, there are many medals won and I am confident we can surpass the target set by MPC and NSC.
"Congratulations to those who contributed gold medals, syabas for their excellent performances," she told Bernama after the opening of the 45th National Bowling Championships and 34th Inter-State Bowling Championships, here today.
Malaysia are currently eighth in the overall medal tally with four gold, six silver and six bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Hannah said the Youth and Sports Ministry channelled a matching grant of RM60,000 to the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) to organise prestigious competitions and for sport’s development at the grassroots.
"I hope the matching grant can help produce more world champions in the sport of bowling,” she said.
