KUALA NERUS, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah praised Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and said she was proud that it was now on par with the top Malaysian universities, although it is still relatively young.
Sultanah Nur Zahirah, who is UMT Chancellor, said UMT's achievements, including obtaining a five-star rating under the Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) in 2022, was indeed something to be proud of.
She said UMT was also chosen as the placement host for the Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation's (YPASM) Antarctic Science Chair with an initial allocation of RM500,000.
“I hope this will elevate academic excellence in the field of Antarctic Science in UMT and have a significant impact on Malaysia's Antarctic research at the international level," she said during the university's 21st Convocation at Dewan Sultan Mizan, here today, which was also attended by the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
Sultanah Nur Zahirah advised UMT graduates to always uphold the good name and reputation of the university and added that as its ambassadors they should conduct themselves with dignity and adopt a noble lifestyle.
A total of 2,388 graduates will receive their scrolls during the 21st UMT convocation which will be held in six sessions starting today until next Tuesday.
The list of recipients comprise 46 (PhD), Masters (150), Degree (2,081) Diploma (111).
