NILAI, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) and Coca-Cola Bottlers (Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei) have provided a drive-through recycling centre in four residential areas in Nilai to promote environmental sustainability in the areas concerned.

SWM Environment chief executive officer Ho De Leong said the KITARecycle Coca-Cola Drive-Through centres are Jentayu@Enstek, Laman Mawar, Cempaka Seri 1 and Cempaka Seri 2 located in the Kota Seriemas area.

He said the facility is provided to enhance public awareness of domestic waste management, segregation of solid waste at source and inculcate the practice of recycling waste management in everyday life.

"This initiative also supports the circular economy. The issue of solid waste management is an increasingly pressing matter, unmanaged solid waste disposal can damage the environment and affect health.

"The KITARecycle programme has collected 769,633 kilogrammes of recycled goods since September 2018 until September this year, with the highest recycled items collected are paper (195,835 kg), plastic (66,401 kg), metal (17,934 kg) and electrical and electronic items (7,250 kg)," he said

He said when speaking at the KITARecycle Coca-Cola Drive-Through programme at Jentayu@Enstek housing here today.

Also present was the State Local Government Development, Housing and Transport, Action Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar.

Ho said the setting up of the drive-through centre could increase the recycling rate to 40 per cent by 2025 as targeted by the Local Government Development Ministry.

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Bottlers Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability director Khairul Anwar Ab Gahani said the recycling drive-through centres in the four areas are a pilot project to support efforts to achieve the goal of sustainable environmental development in the country.

"We intend to raise awareness among the community about the importance of recycling and the need to separate waste at the right source to ensure a good packaging cycle. Used packaging can be used as new packaging," he said.
