KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The reinstatement of five Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) stations is expected to further improve the connectivity of the public transportation service.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) said the RM4.7 million allocation for the upgrading of the LRT3 project (Shah Alam LRT route) and also the support systems was good news for those using public transport, especially those in the western corridor of the Klang Valley, covering areas from Johan Setia, Klang to Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

“It is set to benefit two million commuters along that corridor,” it said in a statement today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling Budget 2024 at the Dewan Rakyat today, said the government has agreed to continue with the proposed building of the five LRT3 stations, which were shelved previously. The five stations are Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik.

According to Prasarana, the allocation also covered the procurement of an additional three sets of trains, the improvement of the support system and the expansion of the existing depot in Johan Setia.

At the same time, the procurement of 150 units of electrical buses and the construction of three bus depots by Prasarana for RM600 million to provide first-mile and last-mile facilities for the LRT3 project were aimed at supporting the net zero carbon emission.

Meanwhile, Prasarana welcomed the initiative to continue with the My50 monthly pass as it would benefit nearly 180,000 commuters.
