LABUAN, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- The highly anticipated 23rd Labuan Rugby Carnival is set to take place this weekend, bringing together a total of 28 teams with 560 players from Sabah, Peninsula, Brunei and Labuan.
The three-day event from Sept 29-Oct 1, organised by the Labuan Rugby Association (LRA), in collaboration with Labuan Corporation (LC) and the Labuan Media Practitioner Association promises thrilling matches at the main venue of Labuan Square.
LRA president Rashid Adlie said the event has gained prominence over the years and this year's edition is expected to be no different.
“Despite a slightly lower participation from teams outside of Sabah and Labuan, owing to a scheduling clash with the Piala Agong of Malaysia Rugby Union, the Labuan Rugby Carnival's seven-a-side (7s) is likely to draw a massive crowd of eager rugby enthusiasts and supporters,” he told Bernama today.
He said this year's carnival would feature five distinct categories, catering to a diverse range of participants with 10 teams in the men’s, three teams in the women’s, three men's veteran teams in the 10-a-side (10s), seven teams in the boys and five teams in the girls under 16.
