2023 Sabah Kmjg : Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan Convoys To Converge In Sipitang, Lawas

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- It will be a first of sorts in this year’s edition of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2023 for Sabah, Sarawak dan Labuan when their respective convoys converge at the border town of Sipitang and later move on to Lawas.

Sabah Information Department director Jainisah Mohd Noor said the three KMJG convoys will meet at an event at Sipitang Esplanade on Aug 12, before the convoys head together for Lawas on Aug 13.

"Various activities have been organised for this year's KMJG to enliven the National Month and National Day celebrations. We invite the public to join us in the celebrations," she told reporters after flagging off the Sabah KMJG convoy at  Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandaraya here today in the presence of the school principal and over 200 students.

Earlier today Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, flagged off the convoy at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall grounds as they headed for SMK Bandaraya.

Jainisah said to celebrate the country’s 66 years of independence this year, the 66 participants in the 2023 Sabah KMJG convoy will be making 66 stops starting today until Aug 20.

She said apart from an exhibition put up by various government agencies, strategic partners from the private sector will also be participating in the 2023 Sabah KMJG by organising activities to help instil the spirit of love for the country among the public.

"We have prepared a host of activities at each stop to encourage the public to fly the Jalur Gemilang,” she said adding that this year activities are also held at the school and government office levels.

Among events that have been lined up include the Semarak Merdeka programme, district-level religious programmes, Merdeka Quiz and Short Video Competition.

Rohani said the events organised in conjunction with the National Month and National Day celebrations provide a whole new experience, especially for schoolchildren, to understand the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.
