KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Johor Prince Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim and his race partner Luca Stolz lead the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia GT3 championship standings after securing a podium finish at the Mobility Resort Motegi, Japan, today.
After finishing fourth in Race 1 yesterday, the Triple Eight Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) team duo finished third in Race 2 in another impressive outing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Tunku Abu Bakar-Stolz top the standings with 95 points, nine ahead of nearest challengers Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak-Anthony Liu Xu of R&B Racing with four rounds remaining.
“I hope we can continue this momentum and finish the season on top. Hopefully, we can get two back-to-back podiums at our home race in Sepang in the final round.
“We’ve always been strong there and we hope it’s the same again this year,” Tunku Abu Bakar said in a statement.
In the same race, another Johor prince, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Hassanal Jefri Sultan Ibrahim, and his teammate, Broc Feeney, finished 13th.
JMR remain fourth in the team standings with 101 points, behind leaders R&B Racing (128 points), Absolute Racing (119 points) and Craft-Bamboo Racing (114 points).
The ninth and 10th rounds will be held at Okayama International Circuit on Aug 18-20, but the JMR team will be back in action next weekend at the Sydney Supersprint in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia series.
