PETALING JAYA, July 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) has allocated RM1.45 million to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) through the ‘KPKT Sentuhan Kasih Programme’ to implement three urgent projects aimed at upgrading public amenities for the well-being of the people.
Minister Nga Kor Ming said out of the amount, RM350,000 involves the upgrading of public toilets and related works at Taman Rimba Riang, a popular location for the local community to carry out leisure activities.
"The other two projects involve an allocation of RM550,000 for roof upgrading works as well as other works at the MBPJ Community Hall and Gerai Selera Impian (food court)," he told reporters after the walkabout session at the Kota Damansara People’s Housing Project (PPR), here, today.
Nga also officiated at the launching ceremony for 12 new lift units at four of the residential blocks which were completed using the allocation provided by the federal government under the Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP) totalling RM3.7 million.
"The distribution of this allocation is aimed at ensuring the well-being and safety of the residents in Kota Damansara PPR," he said.
Meanwhile, Nga said the Local Government Department director-general Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali has been asked to discuss with the Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) president Rosnazli Amin regarding the RM100 fine imposed on a hair salon owner for violating the MPKB bylaws by allowing the salon’s female employees to cut the hair of male customers, adding that it was to find ways if the bylaws could be amended.
"... so that this incident does not happen again in the future. This is an incident that can be avoided.
"I would like to remind all PBT (local authorities) that this is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-religious country. Therefore, mutual respect is very important in maintaining harmony," he said.
