JAKARTA, June 21 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s pay satellite television service provider PT MNC Vision Networks Tbk (IPTV) will enter the Malaysian market this year, said president director Ade Tjendra.
He said IPTV would offer pay television services and content distribution using direct-to-home technology.
“The market potential is quite large considering that there are still not too many television content players in Malaysia,” said Ade as quoted by the news portal iNews.id.
He said cultural similarity aspects between communities in both countries would make it easier for IPTV to adapt to the type of content needed.
Furthermore, capital expenditure would not be required as the company takes advantage of the existing satellite footprint that covers the area around Sumatra island, he said.
Ade said the expansion of operations in Malaysia would be undertaken with the Malaysian content application services provider Ansat Broadcast Sdn Bhd.
The two companies had inked a joint venture agreement term sheet in December last year, signed by MNC Group executive chairman Hary Tanoesoedibjo and Ansat Broadcast executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.
IPTV, a unit of MNC Group headquartered in Central Jakarta, has more than 11.5 million customers in Indonesia.
