BANGKOK, June 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok is working closely with the Thai authorities especially Royal Thai Police (RTP) to locate the missing Malaysian woman who was last sighted in Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai province.
Media reported that 22-year-old Chong Sum Yee had flown to Chiang Mai on May 29 and traveled to the northernmost district of Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province, which borders Tachilek in Myanmar, where incidents of human trafficking had been reported previously.
Thai police said initial investigations found the beautician had crossed the border into Tachilek, Myanmar.
“We are working closely in trying to locate her (Chong) and secure her safety,” said Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel.
Yesterday, a woman believed to be Chong appeared in three online videos to prove that she is 'safe and healthy’.
The woman appeared in three videos with a smiling face pleading to the police to stop bothering the driver who sent her there as he/ her knew nothing about her situation.
However, her mother, Chee Choy Wen who arrived Mae Sai on Wednesday said that her daughter has yet to contact the family.
“If I do not meet her and hold her (Chong) in my arms, I will continue to search for her," she said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, Thai Police are continuing with their efforts to locate Chong.
