30 Terengganu Sea Games Medallists Receive Incentives

KUALA NERUS, June 8 (Bernama) -- A total of 30 Terengganu athletes who won medals at the recent Cambodian SEA Games from May 5 to 12 received incentives from the state's ‘Skim Hadiah Kemenangan’ (SHAKE) amounting to RM82,000.

State Youth, Sports and Non-Government Development Committee chairman, Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said it involved 23 male and seven female athletes who won 26 medals including five gold, eight silver and 13 bronze in 13 sports at the biennial Games.

"Cash rewards of RM4,000 are for athletes who win gold medals, RM3,000 (silver) and RM2,000 (bronze) for individual events.

"For team events, each athlete receives an incentive of RM2,500 for gold, silver (RM2,000) and bronze (RM1,500). It is hoped that this incentive will boost the spirit of other athletes to win medals for the country at any sporting event abroad in the future," he said at the Cambodia 2023 SEA Games Terengganu Athletes Appreciation Ceremony here, today.

At the same ceremony, Wan Sukairi also presented ‘Skim Wakil Negara’ incentives (SWARA) amounting to RM54,000 to 54 Terengganu athletes who represented the country at the Cambodian SEA Games.

In addition, winning prizes amounting to RM29,900 were also distributed to 15 cyclists who won medals at the National Track Cycling Championship in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan held from May 14 to 19.

"We hope that Terengganu will continue to be a force in national sports in the future. This kind of incentive is one of the efforts of the state government to encourage and appreciate the efforts of athletes in bringing glory to the state and the nation," he said.
