Selangor Honours Outstanding Investors At Appreciation Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Investors Appreciation Awards is a testament to the outstanding contributions by investors and it exemplifies the strength of collaboration and partnership with the state of Selangor, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the continued commitment to invest in Selangor has been crucial as the state contributes nearly a quarter of the national gross domestic product (GDP).

"In 2021, Selangor contributed 24.8 per cent to Malaysia’s GDP, and I am confident we hit 25 per cent last year. The state government will continue to advocate business-friendly policies and to assist in facilitating investment project implementations in years to come,” he said at the award-giving ceremony for the years 2019-2022 at Sunway Resort Hotel on Tuesday.

Selangor executive councillor for industry and trade Datuk Teng Chang Khim said that Selangor has seen remarkable investment activities over the past few years.

"In 2022, our state’s economic growth was 5 per cent, and Selangor attracted RM12.21 billion in investments in the manufacturing sector, from a total of 265 investment projects approved by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).

"The significant investments year-on-year, despite the global health and economic challenges, validate Selangor’s appeal to both domestic and foreign investors, creating job opportunities, fuelling economic growth, and bolstering key industries,” he said at the event.

Separately in a statement, the state government said the Selangor Investors Appreciation Awards 2019-2022 was a platform to recognise and honour outstanding investors in the state.

“It aims to acknowledge individuals, companies, and organisations that have made significant contributions to Selangor's economic growth and development through their investment activities. The 2019-2022 winners were selected based on Mida-approved manufacturing projects in Selangor,” it said.

Among the categories were the highest investment in Selangor by a domestic company, highest investment in Selangor by a foreign company, most preferred investment location in Selangor by a local authority, most preferred investment location in Selangor by a local district, special achievement award for a local company in Selangor and special achievement award for a multinational company in Selangor.

Through the awards, the state government aims to encourage and promote investment in Selangor, attract new investors, and foster a positive investment climate.

“It also serves as a platform for networking and knowledge sharing among industry players while creating awareness about the opportunities and potential of investing in Selangor,” it said.
