Firefly Now Flies Daily To Sandakan From Kota Kinabalu

SANDAKAN, May 16 (Bernama) -- Low-cost carrier Firefly now flies daily to Sandakan from Kota Kinabalu beginning today.

Sandakan Tourism Association (Stan) president Teo Chee Kim said this augured well with Sandakan’s efforts to boost its tourism industry post-Covid-19 pandemic.

He said air connectivity to Sandakan, especially by airlines that offered competitive airfares, would be vital to help attract more people to travel and visit the area.

“We believe that this (Firefly’s flight) is a good development, and hopefully, the airline will increase its flight frequency in the near future.

“For now, Firefly has one aircraft to serve the Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan route once daily (to and from), but we have always worked closely with Malaysia Airlines and other airlines to come to Sandakan so as to help grow our tourism industry further,” he told Bernama when met after Firefly’s inaugural flight reception, here today.

Just a little over a year since Malaysia’s tourism industry reopened, Teo said many people were still in a wait-and-see situation, but more people now have found the confidence to travel again and hopefully to Sandakan as well.

“We, Stan, just started discussions with Tourism Malaysia on how we can tap into the Visit Malaysia Year 2025 campaign and how our association can complement and collaborate with them in their activities.

“Right now, Stan is in the process of updating our tourism guide so that we can offer the latest information to our visitors (as the revision was last) done in 2020,” he added.
