Niosh Targets 30 Premises In Southern Region To Partake In Wina Programme

MELAKA, April 2 (Bernama) -- The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Southern Region is targeting 30 premises in the southern region covering Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor to participate in the Workplace Improvement Need Analysis (WINA) programme this year.

NIOSH Southern Region (Melaka) head Abdullah Monsi Ahmad Sarbini said the WINA programme is free for employers who are interested in conducting an analysis at their respective workplaces.

"It is the first step for employers to comply with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) set by the government to maintain a safe workplace for employees in any industry.

"WINA was introduced in 2021 when the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced to help the industry create a safe workplace from the threat of COVID-19 and over 40 organisations have participated in this programme thus far," he told Bernama here today.

He said among the premises participating in WINA in Melaka included the Ayer Keroh Court Complex, Melaka Library and industrial factories.

He said through WINA, employers will be given guidance to prepare a number of documents such as the company's safety policy, OSH management system and various other basic safety requirements in complying with employment-related laws through reports issued by the agency after making an assessment.

"WINA will also identify the types of hazards that may happen to workers in a workplace or field, including ergonomic issues, especially in the office.

"In fact, it also includes biological, chemical and physical work risks in the field that may happen to workers," he said.
