21/03/2023 07:50 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) today launched the Hawkers and Small Traders Development Plan 2032-2027 (P3PK 2023-2027) that outlines strategies and initiatives to empower the community in Malaysia.

Its minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick said the plan, which is based on the National Entrepreneurship Policy, is a continuation of the Hawkers and Small Traders Strategic Development Initiative 2015 - 2020, which has ended.

‘This plan supports the growth and development of hawkers and small traders in the country for the next five years.

“Its development plan focuses on the planning of strategies and initiatives, which are more comprehensive and sustainable, and takes into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on hawkers and small traders who were adversely affected in the past two years,” he said in his speech when launching the P3PK 2023 - 2027 here today.

With the theme ‘Driving the Sustainability of Hawkers and Small Traders Development Through a Conducive and Holistic Environment', P3PK 2023-2027 is based on five main cores and reinforced with 17 strategies and 29 initiatives capable of adding value to the ecosystem development of the business communities nationwide.

‘Based on the planning, implementation strategies and initiatives over the next five years, the plan has been divided into three phases, fast steps for a year, medium (one to three years) and long steps which take three to five years.

“KUSKOP believes that with the timeline, the plan will have a positive and collective impact on each stakeholder within a reasonable period," he said.

Ewon also said the timeline would also enable a more systematic transformation and change to the operating landscape of hawkers and small traders.

“The positive impact covers areas like self-psychology among hawkers and small traders, a more conducive business ecosystem, stronger financial support and business development training, human capital development and an increase in adapting to the digitalisation culture,” he said.

Ewon added that the plan is expected to benefit at least 86,000 hawkers and small traders in the whole country.
