LABUAN, March 21 (Bernama) -- Eco-tourism destination Desa Land has emerged as Labuan’s top tourist attraction, recording more than 100,000 visitors since it began operations in 2021.

The Tourism Promotion Board’s Labuan Tourist Information Centre (LTIC) manager Nor Hidayah Mohd Noor said this positive development augurs well for Labuan’s tourism sector.

“Desa Land promotes nature-based activities which have been a hit with visitors.

“This ecotourism attraction in Labuan can be considered as a crowd puller, and we share in their achievement,” she told Bernama today.

Nor Hidayah said LTIC had been promoting the island’s tourist attractions on various platforms, and it acknowledged the hard work put in by the Desa Land operator to make it a top attraction.

Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail said Desa Land’s achievement was a testament to the robustness of Labuan’s tourism industry.

“Desa Land is an amazing model to revive the tourism-based economy. The number of visitors recorded since 2021 is impressive.

“Labuan Corporation will continue to assist tourism operators on this island to innovate tourism products to make Labuan a popular tourism destination,” he said.

Desa Land founder Datuk Seri Mohd Alias Abd Rahman said the number of people visiting the site had increased after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We must be thankful for the continuous support from LC, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the people for making Desa Land a must-visit destination,” he said.

“For instance, the number of visitors enjoying our train and dinosaur and replica garden exploration alone over the last six months is more than 25, 000,” he said.

Desa Land, which was built on a six-acre piece of land at Jalan Sg Pagar, Kampung Sg Miri, offers activities like a quad bike all-terrain vehicle (ATV) tour, boat paddling at a natural pond and camping trips.

Desa Land has 35 units of tree house, pine cabin, log cabin, chalet and dome accommodation.

“We are increasing activities in Desa Land to tailor them to current and future trends, like canopy walks, ghost tunnel and rock climbing. We are looking at night exploration activities for our visitors to enjoy the natural areas here,” he said.
