JOHOR BAHRU, March 20 (Bernama) -- Telecommunication company Maxis in collaboration with the Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) recently contributed 1,000 boxes of food to flood victims in Johor.
Maxis said the food aid was distributed to affected heads of households based on locations identified by the Information Department (JAPEN), an agency under KKD.
Maxis said the first 200 boxes were handed over by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil to families from Kampung Sungai Tiram, Kampung Simpang Mados and Kampung SC in a ceremony held at Dewan Raya Kampung Sungai Tiram here on March 13.
"Maxis volunteers from the southern region helped in the aid distribution in the area together with JAPEN," Maxis said in a statement today.
Fahmi, in the same statement, said KKD was committed to continue channelling aid to flood victims in Johor, and he appreciated joint efforts with any corporate bodies in conducting such activities.
"There are many families who badly need aid, including supplies of foodstuff. As Malaysians we have a responsibility to help each other, especially those in need,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maxis corporate affairs chief executive Mariam Bevi Batcha said Maxis appreciated the ministry’s efforts in driving the initiative to help look after the welfare of the people.
"With so many people losing their places of accommodation and having their sources of income affected, we are committed to playing our role by cooperating with the ministry to ease the burden of those affected,” she said.
Maxis said its engineers would continue monitoring the performance of networks in affected areas and had taken initiatives to restore services where necessary.
"This includes using portable generator sets in areas which experienced power supply disruption, replacing damaged equipment at submerged sites, and installing free WiFi at several relief centres in Johor and Pahang.
"For areas considered inaccessible due to safety concerns, drones were used for making aerial assessment as part of site rehabilitation efforts,” Maxis said.
