KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- The M3 Football League will be renamed as MBSB Bank Championship through a sponsorship deal that was signed between the Amateur Football League (AFL) and MBSB Bank Berhad.
The announcement was made after the signing ceremony by AFL chairman Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Mahadi and MBSB Bank’s Group chief executive Datuk Nor Azam M. Taib at the Stadium Negeri, Kuching, Sarawak, today.
AFL and MBSB Bank in a joint-statement said the name change was a rebranding exercise that would help lift the status of amateur level football in the country.
Mohd Yusoff said the cooperation proves that the local leagues like semi-professional and amateur football has a vast potential that can be explored commercially.
“The presence of MBSB Bank outlines the acceptance and support of the business community towards football at the amateur level. The cooperation is also expected to be an eye opener to other companies and organisations to be attentive to football at the amateur level,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nor Azam hoped the involvement of MBSB Bank would help spur the popularity of amateur football and fulfill the aspiration of the AFL management to see the league emerge as one of the best leagues in the country.
MBSB Bank, a Syariah compliant bank which is progressive is also the title sponsor for the M4 League and M5 League under the AFL’s management.
