Perlis gov't to use ‘Pig Brig’ method to tackle wild boar encroachment problem

15/03/2023 06:34 PM

KANGAR, March 15 (Bernama) – The Perlis government plans to use the 'Pig Brig' trap method as an effort to overcome the problem of wild boar encroachment in the state.

State Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Committee chairman Razali Saad said the method, introduced by research officers of the ex-situ conservation division of the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) is being implemented in other states and was still considered a pilot project.

“The state government plans to use this trap because it is very effective and capable of catching wild boars in large numbers," he said at the state legislative assembly sitting here today.

He was replying to a question from Haziq Asyraf Dun (PAS-Beseri) on the state government's efforts to overcome the problem of wild animals such as monkeys and wild boars which are becoming more prevalent in Perlis, especially in the Beseri constituency.

Razali said the trap uses a method of installing a net that is installed in a circle with the support of a Galvanized Iron (GI) pipe, and salt placed as bait to attract wild boars.

Meanwhile, to overcome the problem of monkeys, he said Perhilitan was currently using the box and funnel trap methods.
