GEORGE TOWN, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in collaboration with Penang Housing Board (LPNPP) are actively searching for a suitable location for the development of a new People's Housing Project (PPR) in Penang.
Its Deputy Secretary-General (Housing and Community Well-being), Datuk Azhar Ahmad said his visit to the state today was to view some of the proposed development sites for an upcoming PPR project as well as to determine its suitability.
He said that details on the PPR development are not yet available as there are more sites to be viewed and the detailed plans are yet to be finalised.
“It is hoped that the state government through the LPNPP will identify the potential location that is ready for development so that this project can be constructed without any obstacles. Details of the PPR site will be provided later, but Penang will have a new PPR,” he told reporters during his work visit to the state here today.
During the tabling of the national 2023 Budget last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that RM367 million will be allocated to upcoming PPR projects, benefiting 12,400 potential new residents while another RM50 million is earmarked to replace worn-out lifts in existing PPR flats.
However, Azhar said talks are still ongoing within the ministry and its agencies with regard to allocation for each state.
