MORTEN WALK ENTREPRENEUR HUB'S TENANTS GIVEN INCENTIVES WORTH RM250,000

MELAKA, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Incentives worth RM250,000 are being provided under the UDA Entrepreneur Development Programme (PPUU) to the 100 entrepreneurs operating at the soon-to-open Morten Walk Entrepreneur Hub.

This will create even more successful entrepreneurs in the state, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

He said the hub’s development by UDA Holdings is a proactive step in providing facilities at strategic and conducive locations which enable entrepreneurs to expand their business.

“Besides offering business space in the middle of the city, UDA is also providing RM250,000 incentives in the form of rebates on rental, management cost and facility benefits to the 100 entrepreneurs at the hub,” the minister told the media after visiting the project site in Kampung Morten here today.

The hub is being developed by UDA, an agency under the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, on 1.66 hectares at a cost of RM8 million.

The Morten Walk Entrepreneur Hub, which is scheduled to operate in April, is expected to create 1,500 job opportunities comprising the tenants, suppliers and service contractors.

Located near tourist attractions such as Kampung Morten, Melaka River Cruise and Menara Taming Sari, the commercial centre features a modern and trendy concept with rental space comprising cabin-style lots. Among the businesses there are food and beverages, fashion and accessories, and electronics retailing.

UDA president and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany said three more entrepreneur hubs will be developed to produce more entrepreneurs in the country and enhance the socioeconomic status of the local communities.

“These will be located at Heritage Walk, Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Odeon Walk, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, in Kuala Lumpur and at Kuala Terengganu Golf Resort. The development cost per hub is estimated at RM10 million,” he said.

Mohd Salem said developing such hubs is part of UDA’s commitment to support the government’s ambition to empower entrepreneurs in the country.

“It is hoped that the various incentives under PPUU such as Malaysia Entrepreneur Hub, UDA Entrepreneur Incentive Programme, UDA One Stop Retail Centre MARI Mart, UDA Craft Corner KIRANA and UDA Niaga will continue to boost entrepreneurial activities," he added.
