KUCHING, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) through UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) will review the possibility of developing more property projects, especially in Sarawak’s rural areas to benefit local entrepreneurs, says Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said UDA's first integrated development project in the state, Neu Pendington, was the beginning for the government agency to participate in providing business space and increasing the effort to develop micro, small and medium enterprises in Sarawak.
He said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, whom he visited today, suggested UDA look into implementing development projects in other districts in the state and provide business outlets for entrepreneurs in rural Sarawak.
"I would like to see UDA participate in the development of infrastructure for hawkers and small traders in rural areas and I am very confident that the plan can be implemented this year," he told reporters after launching the UDA sales gallery here today.
He informed that the Neu Pendington project which is a collaboration between UDA and the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), is currently at the documentation stage to seek approval for the development plan and the first phase of construction work is expected to start next year.
According to him, the project with a gross development value of RM496 million which includes two apartment blocks, stratified office shop units and a hotel block will stimulate the national economy in line with the concept of ‘Malaysia Madani’.
Meanwhile, when asked about KUSKOP’s allocations in Budget 2023, the Penampang Member of Parliament said he wanted to focus more on entrepreneur development initiatives in Sabah and Sarawak.
It was reported that KUSKOP had submitted a proposal for an RM666 million allocation, involving 185 programmes to the Finance Ministry for Budget 2023 which will be re-tabled on Feb 24.
