KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The national dodgeball squad comprising 27 players will bring the country's challenge to the 2022 Dodgeball World Cup in Cairo, Egypt from Dec 13-18.

The Malaysia Dodgeball Federation (MDF) in a statement today said that the national squad's participation in the third tournament organised by the World Dodgeball Association (WDA) was to provide good exposure to the team ahead of other international competitions such as the SEA Games.

"It is also to maintain Malaysia's position as the best dodgeball team in the world in addition to developing the athletes' skills so that they can perform well at the highest level.

"Another objective is to advance and promote this sport in order for it to gain traction and participation at all levels", according to MDF.

Meanwhile, the new Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh in her speech during the ceremony to hand over the national flag to the squad said she hoped would make Malaysians proud by winning the world cup.

The national squad, accompanied by eight coaches and physiotherapists, will leave for Egypt on Dec 11 and return on Dec 19.

The seven other countries at the tournament are Japan, Hong Kong, England, Egypt, the United States, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Bulgaria, and they will be competing in five categories, namely men’s, women’s, mixed, and under-21 (U-21) men’s and women’s.
