LABUAN, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Newly-elected Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Dr Suhaili Abd Rahman wasted no time oiling his machinery to work on his first task.
Today, he visited the people at Kg Lubok Temiang, still fresh after winning the Labuan seat in the just-concluded 15thGeneral Election (GE15), to thank the people for voting for him and channel the assistance he promised during the election campaign.
“Today, I channelled ceiling fans to food stalls in the village as I promised during the election campaign.
“I will also visit other villages and the Pasar Sentral Market Urban Transformation Centre (UTC),” he told Bernama today.
Suhaili said he would schedule his working visit to the UTC soon to thoroughly check the business situation within the building, as well as to listen to people’s grievances and bring their matters to the parliament level to find the best solution.
“I am very sympathetic to the situation at the public market as many claimed the business there is going from bad to worse, with many vendors having given up their business.
“They could hardly earn about RM50 a day and there are times they don’t even get a single buyer… all vendors operating there face the same problems,” he said.
The Labuan MP said so far the drains in the market were found to be poorly maintained, floors were not washed, the pathway (at the fishmarket) was contaminated with stinky water, and even the lighting looks gloomy.
Suhaili, 61, was Labuan Member of Parliament for two terms, having won in the 1999 and 2004 general elections.
Suhaili, a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member and Labuan Bersatu division chief, recaptured the Labuan parliamentary seat after defeating Datuk Bashir Alias of Barisan Nasional (BN) by a 708-vote majority in a six-cornered fight.
