SME Labuan's founding president, Jefery Tan said the main objective of the establishment of the branch is to provide support, services and solutions to local businesses on the island.

“It is a great networking platform where members from different backgrounds and industries can share their knowledge and information on all matters related to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“The SME Labuan membership is open to all local businesses under the microenterprise and SME category,” he said to Bernama today.

The SME Association of Malaysia was established on July 13, 1995, with the objective of promoting and providing support, services and solutions towards the best interest of SMEs and businesses in Malaysia.

It has close collaboration with government agencies such as the Companies Commission of Malaysia, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and the Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd, among others.

Jefery said SME Labuan will play a proactive role in addressing various issues plaguing the local SME entrepreneurs.

“We will be looking into issues concerning SME entrepreneurs and we are also looking at organising business conferences, seminars, awards, exhibitions and localised projects to educate, elevate and promote our member small and medium industries, enterprises and businesses in Labuan,” he said.

The committee comprises Bernice Chin-Langshaw as deputy president, Iriffin Mohamad as secretary and Eric Low as treasurer, as well as Jeremy Wong, Jerry Teo and Tan Poh Tong as committee members.
