GE15: Bayan Baru candidates claim they have the edge

17/11/2022 07:27 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Three candidates vying for the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat have expressed confidence in capturing the seat based on feedback and support received throughout the 15th general election (GE15) campaign period.

With just a day left before polling day, one of the youngest candidates in Penang, Saw Yee Fung, 33, of Barisan Nasional (BN) said she is optimistic about her chances and vowed to be the voice of the people who she said wanted effective changes in the constituency.

"During my walkabout, voters here are keen to know about my manifesto and I hear people saying that they want to give a youngster like me a chance to serve here," she told reporters during her campaign at Jalan Baru Batu Maung today.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Oh Tong Keong said the people had complained to him about flash floods and heavy traffic flow in the area.

"I can bring a change here if given the mandate as all of my promises to the people is about bringing changes in Bayan Baru as well as resolving the issues faced by the people," he said.

Meanwhile, the oldest candidate in Penang, Ravinder Singh, 80 from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) said that the people recognise him not as a politician but as a responsible person who once served the people while being the head of the complaints department in the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP).

"I do not want to speculate about winning or losing this time but this will be our launchpad for the next state election," he said.

The Bayan Baru parliamentary seat will see a six-cornered fight between Saw, Oh, Ravinder, the incumbent Sim Tze Tzin (PH-PKR), Ooi Chuan Aun (Warisan) and Kan Chee Yuen (Independent).

Sim won the seat with a 37,751-vote majority in GE14.
