MARA supports 30 pct Sabah youth involvement in entrepreneurship - Azizah

SANDAKAN, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) supports efforts by the Sabah government to ensure at least 30 per cent of youth in the state are involved in the fields of entrepreneurship and business, said its chairman, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.

She said the support included aspects to empower the entrepreneurship and skills training programmes provided by MARA, in addition to channelling financial assistance to Sabah youth interested in those fields.

“The target (30 per cent youth in entrepreneurship) is important and its intention is noble, which is to develop the potential and economy of the youth, thus the future of Sabah which is dependent on our young generation. This desire needs to be supported and young people also need to support it.

“There may be youth who do not continue their studies to a higher level but they have skills that can be trained, improved on and given added value to be involved in the field of entrepreneurship,” she told reporters after a working visit to the Sandakan district here today.

Azizah said MARA remains committed to developing the capabilities of youth, including in rural areas, so that they can dominate the economy, become successful entrepreneurs and free themselves from the clutches of poverty.

As of October, a total of 216 youth entrepreneurs in Sabah have received business financing facilities from MARA’s entrepreneurship programme involving an allocation of RM10.1 million.
