Port Dickson candidate among those receiving doctorate at UUM convocation

SINTOK, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) candidate for the Port Dickson, Dr Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri, is among 275 graduates who received their degrees on the first day of Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) 34th convocation ceremony today.

Ahmad Idham, 51, a famous local director and actor, received his doctorate in management.

He told reporters when met after the convocation that the doctorate he received today proved his academic qualifications to those who had disputed his academic status previously.

“I have used the title Dr for two years, but the convocation was today….netizens claimed it was an honorary doctorate, that I had bought it. So today, Alhamdulillah, I know in the general election, many will bring up such issues and spread fake news,” he said, adding that academic qualifications were stressed on by Pejuang president cum Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) pro-tem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a criteria for the 15th general election (GE15) candidates, along with clean records.

Meanwhile, famous local lyricist and composer, Dr Mohd Azhar Abu Bakar, better known as Azmeer, received a doctorate in cultural heritage creative industry management at the same ceremony.

Azmeer, 56, said he managed to make his father Abu Bakar Mohd Ishak, 87, proud and could pass down his knowledge to the younger generation, adding that he planned to publish his thesis as a reference.

“...this academic material should be collected for the younger generation. I like to type myself althought it’s physical...although slow, I patiently do it myself, sometimes till 12 to 14 hours a day,” the UUM Creative Industry and Performing Arts Centre lecturer said.

The thesis he plans to publish touches on many subjects, including the secret to good signing and being able to have a long career in the local arts scene.
