KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF/PLBM) has reintroduced a new ranking system for the selection of bowlers to the national team.
Its president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz said adoption of the refreshed system gave all the lawn bowlers the opportunity to collect points through participation in several competitions in the country.
According to him, three competitions will form the basis for collection of ranking points, namely, the National Singles Lawn Bowls Championship which ended today, the National Pairs in December and the Malaysia Lawn Bowling League next year.
"Besides being a method for us to choose suitable (national) athletes, it also streamlines the previous selection system," he said after attending the National Singles Lawn Bowls Championship, here, today.
It is understood that the ranking system was last used in 2012 when the late Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid served as MLBF (PLBM) president.
The National Singles Lawn Bowls Championship saw national athletes Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and Nurul Alyani Jamil, emerge as champions in the men and women’s categories.
Izzat Shameer, representing the Perak A team, routed Mohammad Idham Amin Ramlan from Terengganu A with a 21-7 scoreline.
In the women’s event, Nurul Alyani of Pahang brushed aside the challenge of Aleena Nawawi of Perak B with a 19-10 result.
