KOTA BHARU, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Ex-international and Kelantan footballer Mohd Hashim Mustapha, a prolific striker in the country during the 90s, successfully underwent surgery to amputate his left leg due to diabetes he had been suffering from for the past few years.
His wife Zaheran Hussien, 52, said Mohd Hashim, 56, underwent surgery at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ II) on Wednesday.
"Mohd Hashim was admitted to the hospital to receive follow-up treatment for an ankle injury after falling off a motorcycle last March, which was getting serious. The arteries in the leg had blockages and to avoid further harm to the leg, amputation from below the knee had to be done," she said when contacted by Bernama, today.
Hashim who had represented the country in numerous international matches was once crowned the M-League’s top scorer and golden boot award winner in the 90s.
The Kota Bharu-born striker was appointed as the assistant coach of the Kelantan team from 2010 to 2012, and was also the head coach of the Tok Janggut Warriors FC team that played in the M3 League.
Zaheran said her husband was still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HRPZ II.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), my husband is stable but needs to be monitored by a doctor. I hope the supporters and fans of Kelantan football pray for my husband's health. In addition to facing diabetes, he has been suffering from heart disease and high blood pressure for the past few years," she said.
