BALING, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah has called on the state government to help upgrade the recreational and prayer facilities at the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah International Islamic University (UniSHAMS).
Sultan Sallehuddin said the quality of life of people working in any organisation is greatly influenced by the comfort of their environment and, as such, the magnificent and imposing varsity building would mean nothing if it does not enhance the quality of their well-being.
"I am confident that the quality of work and learning at UniSHAMS will improve if we pay attention to the quality of the environment. The facilities for recreation and leisure as well as the prayer comfort for university residents should be enhanced because the peace and tranquility of the soul can contribute to the enrichment of personal productivity.
"To realise this, a conducive UniSHAMS environment needs to be created and I hope the state government can help upgrade the recreational and worship facilities at UniSHAMS," His Highness said at the 24th UniSHAMS convocation at the Kuala Ketil campus, near here, today.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Kedah Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also chairman of UniSHAMS Board of Directors.
Sultan Sallehuddin said he was proud of UniSHMAS for being able to produce highly competitive graduates with determination, commitment and a strong sense of identity.
"I hope everyone at UniSHAMS will continue to excel in all things to take this university that we love to a higher level of excellence," he said.
At the ceremony, His Highness also consented to name the UniSHAMS Chancellery Building as the Tan Sri Ustaz Azizan Abdul Razak Chancellery in appreciation of the former Kedah Menteri Besar in the development of the UniSHAMS campus.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,382 graduates received their respective degrees in the doctor of philosophy, master's, bachelor's, post-graduate diploma, diploma and foundation programmes at the three-day convocation, which began today.
