KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) – Maxis’ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenge, ‘Misi Jelajah Digital’, is back again and will be held beginning today till Nov 30, to encourage students to activate their thinking skills through play and imagination.
The competition by e-Kelas, Maxis’ flagship community outreach programme, aims to improve the academic performance of school students in rural communities by bringing fun learning through a combination of live tutorials, group learning, competitions, and digital content.
"This STEM challenge plays an important role in e-Kelas, which encourages students to highlight their creative potential.
"We are proud to run this campaign again, in line with the government's aspirations regarding STEM as a significant part of education to develop a skilled workforce in this digital era," said Maxis chief executive officer Gokhan Ogut in a statement today.
The Misi Jelajah Digital interactive competition aims to attract over 7,000 participants aged 10 to 17 (Standard Four to Form Five) and offer educational content and new challenges in line with the school curriculum.
"Students taking part will also receive co-curriculum marks, or Physical Activity, Sports and Co-curriculum Assessment credits, while having a chance to win exciting prizes, such as laptops and tablets, including a visit to Menara Maxis," he said.
Conducted in line with the standards of the International Society for Technology in Education, Maxis said this year's competition introduces three new pillars with new modules for students, so that they can hone their skills and prepare for higher education.
Participants can learn the basics of coding and design throughout the duration of the competition as they have access to explanatory videos, notes and modules on the competition.
Special panels and talks covering key STEM topics and live tutorial workshops will also be held on Zoom and YouTube to provide participants with tips on how to solve challenges and explore game guides.
