PETALING JAYA, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The Melaka United women’s team will face a tough challenge as they mount their title defence in the Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup 2022, scheduled to begin tomorrow at JSA Arena Setia Alam, Shah Alam.
The 2019 champions have been drawn into Group A together with National Women’s League (LWN) Northern Zone champions Penang and Central Zone champions Sekolah Sukan Malaysia (SSM), along with Sabah, at today’s drawing ceremony.
Melaka United head coach S. Ganesan Pillay admitted that the two teams would be tough adversaries but was nonetheless optimistic that his squad would be able to defend their title.
“SSM Pahang and Penang are strong teams but we haven’t seen them on the field yet.
“I feel Group A is balanced. With my committed players, I’m confident in our chances,” he told Bernama after the media conference at Wisma FAM here today.
Meanwhile LWN Southern Zone champions, Negeri Sembilan will have things easy after being drawn into Group B with LWN Central Zone runners-up Selangor and Northern Zone runners-up Kelantan United, along with Sarawak.
