JAKARTA, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian-Indonesian Journalists’ Association (ISWAMI) will explore opportunites to cooperate with the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta in strengthening its role to realise the aspirations of the two countries and their people.

The matter was among the issues discussed by ISWAMI advisor Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab and Charge d’ Affairs Adlan Mohd Shaffieq in a meeting here.

The collaboration included organising a photography exhibition to showcase Malaysia and Indonesia’s close friendship in conjunction with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries and a seminar on the direction of the two countries amid the dynamic conditions and challenges in the Asian region.

Zakaria said the photography exhibition would be able to display the closeness between various levels of leadership, cultural diversity, civilisation and the progress that has been achieved by the two countries thus increasing interaction especially among the young generation.

On the seminar, Adlan said the people’s awareness of regional and global geopolitical changes and the rapid development of social media should be given due attention.

“Thinkers should be involved to give answer to the question of how society can respond to various challenges in order to create shared prosperity,” he said.

Zakaria and Adlan also exchanged views on the role of media in addressing current issues and challenges, including in fending off fake and negative news that could affect the existing good relations between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by embassy First Secretary Ammil Afiq Jasimi and ISWAMI delegation including its deputy president Datuk Zulkifli Hamzah; secretary Mohd Shukri Ishak, executive secretary Mohd Razman Abdullah and Administrative Council member Hakimi Zuffrida Mohd Zain.

ISWAMI is made up of various media agencies and organisations from Malaysia and Indonesia. ISWAMI Indonesia is led by Asro Kamal Rokan.

The association was established to harmonise bilateral relations in addressing issues of mutual interest, in addition to acting as a mediator to the media in both countries.
