Sarawak Premier wants state travel industry to attract more premium tourists

15/08/2022 11:53 PM

KUCHING, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Sarawak tourism players should focus on attracting premium tourists, instead of mass tourists, who won’t mind spending more to get good services during their stay in the state, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said that, as such, Sarawak will need to continue improving its infrastructure and hospitality services to ensure tourists are satisfied with what is offered.

"For Sarawak, we go for prime (premium tourists). That is why we organise business events and we organised (the) Rainforest (World Music Festival to attract tourists). These are special tourists, they are not mass tourists,” he said when speaking at the Malaysian Association of Hotels annual dinner here today.

According to him, the state government planned to have a wellness centre set up near Damai Beach in Santubong, near here, as another attraction for medical tourism in Sarawak.

"Besides this wellness centre, two international hotels will also be built in Sematan (southern part of Sarawak),  where we can also attract more visitors, especially in medical tourism and prime tourists," he added.
