PUTRAJAYA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Housing developers should work with telecommunications companies to ensure that broadband internet access will be available to residents at housing projects to be developed, said Communications and Multimedia Ministry (K-KOMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek.

He said it was important for housing developers and telecommunication companies to cooperate in providing broadband connectivity because internet service is considered a basic need which comes third after water and electricity.

He said this at a press conference after a signing ceremony between Tanjung Ratna Sdn Bhd and Maxis on a collaboration to provide high-speed broadband at Admiral Residences condominium project in Melaka.

Mohammad said the initiative could increase K-KOMM's efforts to expand broadband access in line with the objectives of the Jalinan Digital Negara Plan (JENDELA).

He added that internet connectivity was one of the conditions in obtaining Planning Permission (KM) approval and guidelines related to the matter have been prepared for housing developers and those involved in property development.
