STOPOVER app aims to help Perak SME entrepreneurs generate digital income

04/08/2022 09:20 PM

IPOH, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Entrepreneurs, especially small and medium industries (SMIs) in Perak now have the opportunity to generate digital income and advertise their products through STOPOVER, an app that also rewards users with cash for every purchase in the system.

Perak Youth, Sports, Communication and Multimedia chairman Khairul Shahril Mohamed said that the unique thing about the app was that it was being offered by a non-governmental body, the Kinta Perak Technology, Innovation and Creativity Entrepreneurs Organisation (PUTIK).

"This app is in the form of a reward system and targets IKS traders and others in the state so they can offer it to their customers.

"I see that PUTIK's efforts give the state a lot of opportunities to produce talent to meet the needs of these industry players from the point of view of digital expertise. We very much welcome suggestions and ideas to ensure mutual success," he told reporters after launching the app here today.

Khairul Shahril said customers who use the app should scan a special QR code to qualify them to receive cash back from the seller.

Meanwhile, Stopover Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Mohd Zahrul Azmi Mohd Yusof said the company is targeting about 3,000 SMI traders to benefit from the app, which is expected to give additional returns and generate income for them later.

In another development, Khairul Shahril said five more Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) in the state have been added by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), bringing the total  to 71 centres.

"The Federal Government aims to establish at least one PEDi in each state constituency, but it should not be focused on just one constituency and should be increased if there are any insufficiencies.

"Therefore, we plan to create 19 more PEDi covering all state constituencies. It is understood that it is in the final stage, and is expected to be completed this year because the process is not that difficult," he added.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa was reported to have said in November last year, that the Federal Government aims to have one PEDi in every state constituency to increase community awareness and involvement towards improving their socio-economy and empowering human capital among rural communities and the urban poor.
