KMKM 2022: Perak passes Jalur Gemilang baton to Penang

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- A total of 20 boats joined in the ceremony to hand over the Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia 2022 (KMKM 2022) Jalur Gemilang baton from Perak to Penang at Sungai Kerian today.

Sungai Acheh assemblyman Zulkifli Ibrahim said the ceremony was deliberately held at the river to create uniqueness for Penang.

“...we tried to make it different and unique by riding the boats and taking to the river. Nibong Tebal is close to the borders of Kedah and Perak, so we organised the event at Sungai Kerian to attract the participation of the local community.

“A total of 20 boats from various agencies and fishermen were involved in today’s event,” he told Bernama after officiating the KMKM 2022 convoy programme and baton handing-over ceremony from Perak to Penang, with state Information Department (JaPen) director Dr Haniff Hassan also present.

Meanwhile, Haniff said the KMKM 2022 convoy in Penang would tour five districts in the state, namely Seberang Perai Selatan, Barat Daya, Timur Laut, Seberang Perai Tengah, and then the baton will be handed over to Kedah at the Merdeka Bridge in Seberang Perai Utara tomorrow.

He said the convoy in Penang would focus more on the community, especially schools, mosques and public areas.

Earlier, Haniff led the Penang KMKM 2022 convoy, which was joined by 20 high-powered motorcycles from the BMW K16 Malaysian Motor Club and the Civil Defence Emergency Response Team (CDERT-APM).

Also participating in the convoy are the patrol vehicles of the Royal Malaysia Police, JaPen and APM.
