KOTA BHARU, July 22 (Bernama) -- Lotus’s Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd today donated a wheelchair worth RM25,000 to a child with celebral palsy through the ‘Kelantan Dekat Di Hati’ programme in Pulau Sri Tanjung here.

Kelantan Lotus's Stores manager Koh Siuew Luan said the donation of the Snappi chassis type wheelchair was given to Aisya Mohd Nor who has been suffering from cerebral palsy since birth.

"Prior to this, we obtained information regarding Aisya's condition via a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in addition to finding out about the problems the child's parents faced whenever they take their child to a clinic.

“We are doing the best to provide for this child’s needs as well as lessen the burden on her parents,” Koh told reporters after the donation ceremony here today.

Commenting further, Koh said apart from the donation to Aisya, her team is trying to raise awareness through this programme on health and well-being to about 600 families living in the locality.

"Taking care of well-being is always at the core of all of Lotus's community programmes," she said.

“The programme will also give information so that residents there will be wise consumers, especially when making purchases. We also will get the cooperation of the Kelantan Health Department to help the community here become smart consumers and to learn about healthy eating," she said.

Meanwhile, Aisya's mother, Nurul Baiyah Rosli, 37, said prior to this she used a decrepit wheelchair to push her daughter 500 metres to the health clinic each time she needed treatment.

"I need to go two or three times a month to the clinic to monitor my daughter's progress. The decrepit wheelchair made movement difficult for both of us.”

“I am not able to buy a new wheelchair as I am a housewife and my husband is only a fisherman who also does some odd jobs in the village," she said, adding that she was grateful to Lotus’s for donating an expensive wheelchair.
