WEAK EARTHQUAKES HIT ANDAMAN ISLANDS
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 20 weak earthquakes were detected around the Andaman Islands from July 4 to 6, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
However, based on continuous monitoring and analysis of seismological and tsunami data and information, MetMalaysia does not expect the incident to result in a tsunami that will affect Malaysia.
The public is urged to always refer to MetMalaysia for any earthquake and tsunami-related information via MetMalaysia website www.met.gov.my, myCuaca mobile application, MET Malaysia's official social media, and its hotline at 1-300-22-1638.

PANGKOR ISLAND FERRY OPERATORS HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF INCREASE - EXCO
IPOH: Industry players, including transport operators have been informed about the increase in ferry ticket prices to Pulau Pangkor from Lumut Jetty and Marina Island Jetty, here, which started last Friday.
Perak Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said the Manjung District and Land Officer's office had informed the ferry operators about the increase recently.
In the meantime, Nolee said the state government had also brought the issue to be discussed at the State Executive Council (MMK) to find the best solutions regarding the increase which has caused public concern.
It was reported that there was an increase in the price of ferry tickets to Pulau Pangkor from Lumut Jetty and Marina Island Jetty, here, namely an increase of RM3 for a one-way trip for adults, which is RM10 or RM20 for a return trip. Tickets for children are RM5.50 one way and RM11 for a round trip. However, the residents of the resort island still enjoy the same price of RM6 for a return trip.

PLANTATION WORKER TRAMPLED BY WILD ELEPHANTS SUFFERS BROKEN ANKLE
KUANTAN: A plantation worker was injured and broke his left ankle after being trampled by a wild elephant at Ladang Semantan Mentakab, Temerloh bordering the Kemasul Forest Reserve yesterday.
Pahang Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Rozidan Md Yasin said in the 8 am incident, the 55-year-old victim had contacted his assistant plantation manager to inform him of the incident, adding that the victim was rushed to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Temerloh for treatment.
He said Perhilitan personnel had gone to the scene after receiving a complaint at 4.15 pm yesterday and found traces of at least seven wild elephants as well as a pair of shoes and hat belonging to the victim.
"Perhilitan is monitoring the movement of these elephants for further action," he said in a statement today.

NO ARREST FOR TWO COPS AT ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE
SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have confirmed that they did not make any arrests or seize cash from the two senior police officers who were at an entertainment centre in Petaling Jaya, last night.
In a statement today, Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the raid was carried out by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department on an entertainment centre at about 12.15 am.
During the raid, Arjunaidi said police found the two senior police officers with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and Inspector working at the Petaling Jaya and Bukit Aman District Police Headquarters among the patrons of the entertainment centre.
However, he said the case would be referred to the Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance.

AUTHORITIES ISSUE 1,332 COMPOUNDS TO HEAVY VEHICLES FROM JAN-JUNE
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,332 compounds were issued to heavy vehicles with a load of more than 7.5 tonnes that entered the main roads in the city during peak hours from January to June 30.
Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the compounds were issued by the three relevant agencies, namely the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) involving 847 compound notices; Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) (90); and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Enforcement Department (DBKL) with 395 compound notices.
“Today, we find that there are still some heavy vehicles entering Kuala Lumpur during peak hours which are not allowed at all, compounds have been imposed by the enforcement in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333),” he said.

PADDY FARMER FINED RM5,000 FOR INSULTING HINDUISM
SHAH ALAM: A farmer was fined RM5,000 by the Sessions Court here today for making and initiating offensive communication with elements of insult to Hinduism on his Facebook page, three years ago.
Judge Rasyihah Ghazali meted out the sentence against Mohammad Syafiq Iqbal Mohammad Helmi, 31 after he pleaded guilty.
The court also ordered Mohammad Syafiq Iqbal to serve a four-month jail sentence, if he failed to pay the fine. He paid the fine.
Rasyihah also advised the accused to repent, not repeat the same mistake, and to exercise caution when posting on social media.

ASF OUTBREAK: 91 WILD BOARS DIE IN TERENGGANU
KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 91 wild boars around the Air Putih forest area near Kemaman, were confirmed dead due to African Swine Fever (ASF).
Terengganu Veterinary Services Department director Dr Anum Man said the deaths were first detected on June 21, adding that the department had taken samples from the animals.
She told Bernama today that based on the samples, the cause of death was due to ASF.
ASF is a mandatory reportable disease gazetted under Section 31, Animals Act 1953 (Revised-2006) (Act 647), with each owner or person responsible for an animal or livestock that has been infected or suspected of being diseased, liable to a fine not exceeding RM 25,000 for failing to report it to the authorities.

COOKING OIL: TERENGGANU OPENS FIVE INVESTIGATION PAPERS
KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has opened five investigation papers on the misuse of packet cooking oil in a special operation that has been carried out since June 23.
Its director, Saharuddin Mohd Kia said of the five investigation papers, three were issued against three small and medium industries (SMIs) and one each against a wholesaler and packer of cooking oil.
"The three SMIs (two in Kuala Terengganu and one in Dungun) were found to have violated regulation 18 of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 which is to use scheduled goods (cooking oil) over the permitted quantity without a permit.
"The packer and wholesaler have violated regulation 13, Control of Supplies 1974, which is failure to maintain the stock book of controlled goods," he told reporters after inspecting the operation at an SMI factory here today.
He said any party who possessed controlled cooking oil items for commercial purposes exceeding 12 kilogrammes without the approval of the ministry could be prosecuted under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
