BALING, July 5 (Bernama) -- The strong currents caused by the water surge phenomenon that occurred in Kampung Iboi, here ruined the business of a baker, causing her a loss of about RM200,000.
Recounting her experience, Nurul Halimah Kuin, 29, said in the 4.30 pm incident the entire shop building located on the banks of Sungai Iboi was ruined.
"At the time of the incident the rain was not too heavy but the river water rose very fast and entered the shop. I ran to my house which was located nearby to ask for help from my father-in-law, but he was not at home,” she said adding that she went back to the bakery and saw that the water had risen to one metre.
She then shouted for help and the nearby residents managed to save her mother-in-law and one of her employees.
She told this to reporters when met at the scene here today.
She said the incident happened so fast that she did not have time to save any equipment, items and cash from her shop.
Despite suffering considerable losses, she said she was thankful that she and her family survived the disaster.
”I'm just thankful yet sad for others who have lost their loved ones in this disaster,” she said.
The floods claimed the lives of three family members while nine houses were washed away by the strong currents.
