SIBU GETTING A NEW SUNGAI MERAH MARKET
SIBU -- The Sungai Merah Market in the city will be replaced with a new building with an allocation of RM4.55 million to provide comfort to shoppers and traders.
Market Hawkers and Petty Traders standing committee chairman Albert Tiang in the Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) said construction of the new two-storey market building as part of the people's projects would begin on July 10 and is expected to be completed within 18 months.
"The construction also includes a car park, public toilets and kiosks," he told reporters today.
All 18 hawkers in the market have been relocated to a temporary site at Lorong Sungai Merah 2D located near the existing market since June 27.

‘PERAK PRIHATIN’ CARD CAN BE USED AT MOBILE SALES OUTLETS
IPOH -- The ‘Perak Prihatin’ card facility will be expanded to enable purchases at mobile sales outlets, says Women, Family and Community Welfare Development committee chairman Datuk Dr Wan Norashikin.
“When we finish updating the Perak Prihatin card (which currently can only be used at registered shops), it will include mobile shops. This will allow card recipients like the B40 group to enjoy discounts on various items sold because currently, all groups of people can make purchases at the mobile shops," said Dr Wan Norashikin after officiating the state Father's Day celebration at the auditorium hall of the Ministry of Home Affairs Complex in Meru Raya here today.
She said 20,000 cardholders in the state were eligible to buy basic items worth RM80 a month at 188 registered shops as well as seek health treatment facilities worth up to RM300 a year at selected panel clinics.
On June 22, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the state government planned to increase the number of mobile shops, especially in rural areas from 9 am to 3 pm daily at selected locations.

CONQUEST OF 70 PEAKS TO MARK APM’s PLATINUM JUBILEE
KUALA TERENGGANU -- A total of 1,000 members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) today scaled 70 mountain peaks and hills throughout the country simultaneously, in conjunction with APM’s Platinum Jubilee programme.
Programme coordinator Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said the feat -- which had the cooperation of the Forestry Department, Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) and the local authorities of each state -- was to improve the rescue skills and physical training of APM personnel in hilly areas.
"The selection of 70 hills and mountains was done by the state APMs and the climbs started from 8 am today simultaneously throughout the country.
"During the climb, members pasted safety posters along the way, such as measures to be taken during an emergency and the direction of the ‘Qibla’ to make it easier for Muslims to perform prayers," he told Bernama today.

TWO ARRESTED FOR RM25,000 BRIBERY ATTEMPT
KUALA LUMPUR -- Police arrested two men for allegedly trying to offer a bribe of RM25,000 to a senior police officer after a premises was raided in Kepong near here yesterday.
PDRM secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the two men, aged 40 and 46, were detained in Op Kontraban by the Intelligence and Special Investigation Branch, Special Operations Force, Department of Internal Security and Public Order together with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to him, police also arrested two Sri Lankan men aged 26 and 30. "We also seized 34,536 cans and 889 bottles of liquor, two four-wheel drive vehicles and RM42,157 in cash with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM1,228,391," he said in a statement today.
Noorsiah said one of the four arrested had committed a similar offence on March 16 with a confiscation value of RM736,658.
"The success of this operation is the result of cooperation between police and MACC in ensuring transparency and integrity," he said.

KUALA TERENGGANU -- Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and Pharmaniaga Berhad managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope have been appointed as members of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin’s ( UniSZA) 'CEO@Faculty Programme 1.0: Learn From the Pros', effective Feb 1, 2022, to Jan 31, 2024.
UniSZA Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fadzli Adam said the ‘CEO@Faculty Programme’ was one of the initiatives that supported the aspirations of the 2015-2025 Malaysia Education Blueprint in producing holistic, entrepreneurial and balanced graduates through the sharing of knowledge, experience and expertise between academia and industry.
"UniSZA is confident that both of them can push graduates to a higher level with their expertise and experience. In addition, they are a catalyst for more industry figures to get involved in this programme," he said in a statement today.
He said the ‘CEO@Faculty’ members should contribute between 20 to 30 hours within two years of their appointment to students, lecturers and academic staff.
"Their contribution can be in the form of lectures, knowledge-sharing, case studies, conducting seminars and forums, assisting universities in research and innovation as well as receiving study tours," he said.
