KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- For the first time in 20 years, the harvest season for the ‘Rotab’ dates in Saudi Arabia has arrived earlier than July, reported the Saudi News Agency (SPA).
This early harvest season is made more special as it coincides with the Haj season of 1443 H, giving pilgrims around the world the opportunity to enjoy the ‘Rotab’ dates with a crunchy and fresh texture, while increasing the income of domestic date farmers.
According to SPA, a survey at the Madinah Date Market found that various varieties of ‘Rotab’ dates such as ‘Rothana’, ‘Ajwa’, ‘Lawnah’ and ‘Rabiah’ have been sold since early June to meet domestic demand, including in the Haj catering services industry.
Currently, the price of the dates is set between 20 to 60 Saudi Riyals per 3kg box, depending on size and quality.
