KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian women’s football team suffered a 6-0 trouncing at the hands of Bangladesh in an international friendly match last night.
Despite being in the 85th spot in the world ranking, far higher than Bangladesh’s 146th, the Malayan Tigress clearly failed to rise up to the challenge at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka.
Bangladesh opened the scoring after only nine minutes through Mossamat Akhi Khatun before Sabina Khatun scored the second one for the team in the 25th minute.
Mossamat Akhi widened the lead to 3-0 in the 29th minute before Mossamat Sirat Jahan scored another goal to enable them to be comfortable with four goals by the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Malayan Tigress continued to be punished with Monika Chakma’s goal in the 66th minute, followed by Srimoti Krishnarani’s, in the 73rd minute.
The Malayan Tigress coached by Jacob Joseph will play against Bangladesh again on Sunday (June 26) to complete the friendly series in Dhaka in preparation for the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship in Binan City, Manila from July 4 to 17.
The squad will kick off their AFF Women’s Championship campaign by playing against Singapore on July 4, followed by Indonesia (July 6), the Philippines (July 8), Thailand (July 10) and Australia (July 12).
The semi-finals were scheduled for July 15, and the final, on July 17.
