KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) has reinstated the lifted suspension against Negeri Sembilan Sepaktakraw president Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah starting today, following his actions to tarnish the reputation of the sport's governing body.
ASTAF president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader said the move was made after Wan Mohd Husni made allegations against the former by claiming that he was working on his own and did not follow the regulations.
Abdul Halim said the allegation was made during a meeting among representatives of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) including representatives of the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Confederation led by its president Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman and Sports Commissioner Ibrahim Mohd Yusof on April 8.
"He also alleged that no meeting was held when taking action to remove PSM as an ASTAF affiliate," said Abdul Halim in a statement today.
Abdul Halim rejected all the allegations saying there was strong evidence to debunk the claims made by the PSM coaching chairman against ASTAF.
"ASTAF sees this accusation as very serious and defamatory towards ASTAF," he said.
According to Abdul Halim, Wan Mohd Husni’s suspension will be enforced until Dec 8, 2024, which is in line with the five-year punishment imposed on him on Dec 9, 2019.
Wan Mohd Husni was suspended by ASTAF for being shown a red card by the match referee at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
He was alleged to have acted aggressively toward the referee when protesting a decision that did not favour the Malaysian team.
However, after serving part of the suspension, ASTAF reduced the period as a result of his appeal which was submitted to the association in August 2021.
