Six core areas to drive efforts towards a developed state - Johor MB

JOHOR BAHRU, June 14 (Bernama) -- Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi today announced six core areas that will drive the efforts to realise the vision of making Johor a developed state by 2030.

He said under the six core areas, the state has all the right ingredients to rise again and succeed after two years of battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The six core areas are government governance, economic development, social security net, facilities and basic needs as well as Johor youths.

Onn Hafiz said governance is the basic foundation in his administration as the efficiency and effectiveness of a government’s administration depends on good governance at all levels.

He said the state government will also implement the ‘No Gift Policy’’, an extension of the Johor State Government’s Anti-Corruption Plan 2021-2025 which was launched end of last year as an effort to strengthen the work culture that comes with integrity and quality.

“Under my leadership, governance is placed as the foremost core area in the Johor State Development Direction.  It becomes an important indicator underpinning all other core components,” he said when delivering his message to the state’s civil servants at the Persada International Convention Centre (PERSADA) here today, which was also streamed live on his Facebook.

Also present were the Johor state secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani, Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, Johor state executive council members as well as over 1,600 civil servants in the state.

Besides that, Onn Hafiz said the emphasis was also given to the economic development core area to drive the revitalisation efforts involving all economic sectors in the state that contribute to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) so that they will continue to grow rapidly for years to come.

He said it was to ensure that Johor could achieve a GDP value worth RM260 billion by 2030, more than double the size of the state current’s economy.

According to him, this requires Johor's economy to grow by around seven per cent a year, which is high, but not impossible to achieve if all parties are committed to achieving it.

He said the social security net core area includes five major components namely road maintenance, water supply, internet and telecommunications and food supply to meet the basic needs of the Johor people, adding that the state government has also identified 3,000 acres of land to be cultivated with high-value crops for domestic consumption as well as for export purposes.

"I urge that we also dominate every activity in the food value chain so that the ‘from farm to fork’ goal will come true," he said.

Onn Hafiz said to develop the talent of nearly two million Johor people including one million of its youths, the state government will implement five youth development modules namely education, leadership, entrepreneurship, sports and recreation and volunteerism, in addition to setting up a leadership school.

“These modules are so important for us to ensure that the young generation of Johor is a capable, competent, resilient and competitive human capital, able to face whatever challenges that lie ahead and will continue to add value to the progress and success of the state of Johor,” he added.
