NEW DELHI, June 1 (Bernama) -- Pakistan is looking to achieve an annual trade target of US$5 billion (US$1=RM4.38) with Turkey within two years, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during an interaction session with Turkish business community in the country’s capital in Ankara Tuesday night.
Shehbaz said he would take further steps to attract Turkish investors to Pakistan.
"We will take necessary steps to facilitate visas for Turkish citizens and business persons to boost trade and people-to-people contacts," Shehbaz said in a tweet on Wednesday.
It was agreed during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Islamabad in 2020 that the two countries would increase their trade volume more than five-fold to exceed US$5 billion by 2023.
Shehbaz, who became prime minister in April, is accompanied by a number of ministers, including Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, on his three-day visit to Turkey.
Bilawal and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during their talks discussed bilateral and regional issues, including achieving stability in Afghanistan.
The two "underscored the need for continued engagement between the international community and the interim Afghan government to achieve shared objectives of peace," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
