MELAKA, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Multimedia University (MMU) at Melaka campus is poised to be the hub for promoting Korean language and culture through its newly launched King Sejong Institute (KSI) here, today.
MMU president Prof Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su'ud said the establishment of KSI-MMU will help enhance greater global visibility of both institutions, serving as a platform to provide MMU students and the public with the opportunities to explore and experience the Korean world through a variety of events, competitions and classes.
"The study of foreign languages teaches and encourages respect for other people. It fosters an understanding of the interrelation of language and human nature.
"Moreover, foreign language will expend one's view of the world, enrich one's experience and make one more flexible and tolerant," he said at King Sejong Institute MMU Melaka Campus launching ceremony, here today.
The launching was officiated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia, Lee Chi Beom.
Mazliham said as of June 2021, there are 234 such institutes in 82 countries all over the world including Malaysia and MMU Melaka campus is one of the 25 new universities selected out of 120 other universities worldwide to be part of KSI in 2021.
"I am confident that this event will further expose participants to Korean culture, which is currently popular around the world. I also believe that the openness and acceptance of Korean culture has been well established within MMU. This will put KSI MMU Melaka well on its trajectory toward success," he said.
He also added that since KSI-MMU Melaka campus began operation last year, nearly 100 students and participants had attended various short course programmes held.
Meanwhile Lee in his speech also pointed out that KSI-MMU will further enrich exchanges in education and cultural sector between the Republic of Korea and Malaysia.
"I hope that there would be synergy through the exchange and cooperation of these educational institutes in Malaysia and it will strengthen the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Korea," he said.
