PUTRAJAYA, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories contingent (WiPers) want to be champions of the XX Malaysia Games (Sukma) which will take place around the Klang Valley from Sept 16 to 24.
Federal Territories’ Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said that the WiPers are counting on their 587 athletes who will be competing in 31 types of sports to achieve the target.
“We are setting our target to become champions, the number of medals will be based on the categories and indeed we already have a target for every discipline.
“I have also requested that the training programmes be increased so that when we go there (Sukma) we will be champions,” he said.
He was speaking to the media after a ceremony to hand over letters of appointment to the contingent's 41 team managers here today.
The ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar was appointed as WiPers chef de mission.
At the last Sukma in 2018, the Federal Territories emerged as runners-up with 52 gold medals.
Meanwhile, Federal Territories Sports Council (MSWP) director Dr Hasnul Faizal Hushin Amri said a meeting with team managers and coaches would be held in early July to discuss the medal targets in more detail.
